Velkommen til «Stadsbygd slekt» 5 May 2009 - 9:33:44pm
This database is centered on the historical Stadsbygd parish (prestegjeld) in Sør-Trøndelag, Norway. Included are Stadsbygd and Ingdalen in the Stadsbygd subparish (sokn) and Rissa, Hasselvika and Lensvik in Rissa sokn. Ingdalen and Lensvik are now in Agdenes municipality (kommune) on the south side of Trondheimsfjord, while the rest is in Rissa kommune on the north side of the fjord and part of the Fosen peninsula.
The database also contains the names of people who are relatives of people born there, both by blood and by marriage. As a result, it has a large number of names of people who emigrated to the United States and their descendants as well as people from areas adjoining Stadsbygd prestegjeld such as Stjørna, Bjugn, Ørland, Agdenes and Leksvik.
Virtually no source of genealogical information is error-free and certainly this database contains some errors. If you think you've found one, please let me know. Similarly, if you have additional information that can be linked to one of the staværing in the database, please feel free to send it to me along with to whom it links.
To prevent identity theft, the database has been privatized, so the birth dates of people who are living or presumed living have been deleted.
For full access to the information in the database, you will need to register. It's free and I will give you an authorization quickly.
Please visit my other site about Stadsbygd at www.stadsbygd.org. This site contains a link to a downloadable and privatized version of the GEDCOM. My email address is my last name (below) @gmail.com. When writing, please feel free to write either in English eller på norsk.
Igjen, velkommen til «Stadsbygd slekt!»
Med vennlig hilsen,
Dennis L. Haarsager
Grandson of Elias Jensen Haarsager (1855-1926) and Kjersten Pedersdatter Fenstad (1868-1946), both born in Stadsbygd and married in the United States in 1884.

Please consider this an open database where your additions and corrections are welcome. Many people ask how they can contribute. Please do so in any format that is convenient for you. It can be a Word document, a Rich Text File, Excel spreadsheet, GED genealogy file, or Family Tree Maker FTW file.
You do not have to provide sources for your data, but they are welcome and desirable.
Do not be surprised if your relatives have different surnames and different spellings for given names than you remember. Because of Norwegian naming customs, changes in official Norwegian spelling conventions, variations in local dialects, parish ministers who were trained in Danish, and changes that often were made upon immigration in the United States, these names will exhibit a high degree of variability. As a convention, I try to enter 19th century and earlier names using the farm name where the individual was born rather than the one on which they were raised or lived later in life. Subsequent names are included in the off-line database in an "also known as" field.
Mvh, Dennis
